*(typically anyone who is enrolled in a preschool program, please pay special attention this can mean the ages in this group may vary from 3 years to 5 years old)

A CHANGE FOR PRE-K TO 1ST GRADE

Training sessions will now be longer as players learn through play. We have seen that the players at this age enjoy the "training session time" so much more than the game time, and are learning so much more during the training sessions.

Our decision was based on the following:

  • We are teaching them soccer skills through fun activities.
  • One-on-one with their ball
  • Keeping them engaged

SOCCER AND THE PRE-K TO 1ST GRADE PLAYERS

Physical Development:

  • Motor Skills: U5 players are constantly in motion, loving to run, jump, roll, and climb. Their eye-hand and eye-foot coordination is primitive, and they're not yet ready for bouncing or flighted balls.

  • Control: Controlling the ball is a complex task for them, and they often prefer large, soft balls. Coaches will incorporate fun games where players will learn that these are not necessarily soccer games.

  • Speed: They typically have two speeds: extremely fast and stopped.

  • Balance: Their physical coordination is still developing, and they can balance on their dominant foot-we will work on this in a fun way

    Cognitive Development:
  • Attention Span: U5 players have short attention spans, making it important to keep instructions concise and to the point.

  • Abstract Thinking: They are unable to think abstractly and struggle with spatial relationships.

  • Perspective: They are focused on themselves and unable to see the world from another's perspective.-do not yet grasp team concept

  • Rules: They only understand simple rules and concepts.

    Social and Emotional Development:
  • Individually Oriented: They are individually oriented, with little concern for team activities and games
  • Adult Approval: They are eager to gain adult approval and often look for it.
  • Imagination: They have active imaginations, which can be used to make practice more engaging
  • Sensitivity: They are easily bruised and need generous praise and encouragement.

SOCCER AND THE 2ND-3RD GRADE PLAYER

U10 (Under the age of 10) soccer players
Are at a crucial stage of development, both physically and psychologically. They are more likely to be motivated by the game itself, enjoy team activities, and begin to develop a sense of team identity. Coaches should focus on fun, skill development, and foster a positive learning environment.

Physical and Skill Development: U10 players are developing their gross and small motor skills, making them more efficient and coordinated on the field.

Skill Mastery: This age group is ready to focus on mastering basic skills like dribbling, passing, shooting, and receiving.

Pace and Awareness: They begin to develop an understanding of the pace of the game and learn to think ahead.

Strategic Awareness:

U10 players can start learning more advanced defensive concepts like zone defense, which helps them understand how to work together as a team.

Psychological and Cognitive Development:

  • Increased Attention Span: While still active, U10 players can hold attention for slightly longer periods, making them more receptive to instruction.

  • Motivation and Enjoyment: They are motivated by the fun of playing and the thrill of learning new skills, rather than being forced to play.

  • Team Orientation: U10 players appreciate the team aspect of soccer, enjoying uniforms and team association.

  • Self-Awareness: They develop an increased awareness of themselves and others, including their own strengths and weaknesses.

  • Competitive Drive: U10 players enjoy competition and strive to win, but their focus should be on fun and improvement, not solely on results.

  • Developing Identity: They start to identify with role models and begin to emulate their skills and personalities.

  • Importance of Feedback: U10 players are influenced by feedback from coaches, parents, and peers, which can impact their self-esteem and confidence.

FAQ

WHO WILL COACH THE TEAM?

We do!
Dakota Fusion will provide a coach for your child's team who will run practice and coach the game.  We plan to use our  Academy players who bring their playing experience and share their talents, excitement, and passion for soccer with the kids. These players will be overseen by our Academy Coaching staff.

WHEN ARE PRACTICES?

Our format is to practice for the first part then break out into games.  Our coaches will be on the field with the players during practice and the game to keep the kids moving and having fun while learning the game of soccer.

At Dakota Fusion we recognize families are busier now more than ever with activities which is why we have adopted the one day of play for our Rec+ Program.
